Wet it, wring it out, snap it, and it is cold within seconds, then stays that way for two to four hours before it needs wetting again.

For hot flushes, night sweats and hot days

A lot of people buy this one for three in the morning rather than for the gym. Kept damp on a bedside table, it goes round the back of the neck and takes the edge off a flush without the shock of something straight out of the freezer, and without soaking the bed if you wring it out properly. It is just as useful on a train, in a warm office, or sitting in the sun.

How it cools

By evaporation, not refrigeration. Water held in the weave evaporates, and evaporation carries heat away from your skin with it. Nothing is added to the fabric: no gels, no cooling chemicals, nothing that wears off with washing.

Using it

Wet it through.

Wring it out firmly. Damp, not dripping, is what makes it cold.

Snap it in the air four or five times to start the evaporation.

What you get

One pink CoolTowel in its clear carry bottle with a clip

Machine wash cold.
