Privacy Policy

01:Who we are
CoolTowel ("we", "us") runs cooltowel.com and is responsible for your personal information under UK data protection law. If you have a question about your data, or want to use any of the rights below, email support@cooltowel.com.
02:What we collect
- When you order: your name, email, phone number, delivery and billing addresses, what you bought, and payment confirmation. We never see or store your full card details. Card payments are handled by Shopify Payments and, where you choose them, PayPal, Klarna, Shop Pay, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
- When you sign up to hear from us: your email address, and your phone number if you agree to texts. Also anything you choose to tell us in our signup popup, such as what you mainly use a CoolTowel for, and whether you've entered our monthly prize draw.
- When you browse: the pages and products you look at, what you add to your basket, whether you start a checkout, your device and browser, and roughly where you are (from your IP address). This is collected through cookies and similar technology. See "Cookies" below.
- When you contact us or leave a review: what you send us, and your review and any photos you add.
03:How we use it, and our legal basis
- Take payment, send your order, deal with returns and questions. To carry out our contract with you
- Keep order and payment records. Legal obligation (tax and accounting)
- Send marketing emails and texts: offers, new colours, news. Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time
- Remind you about a basket or checkout you didn't finish. Your consent. Or, if you started a checkout with us and didn't opt out, our legitimate interest in following up a purchase you began. Every reminder has an unsubscribe link.
- Run our monthly prize draw and contact the winner. To carry out the draw you entered (see the Prize draw terms)
- Understand how the site is used, and fix and improve it. Our legitimate interest in running a working shop, using analytics cookies only where you've allowed them
- Prevent fraud and keep the site secure. Our legitimate interest, and legal obligation
04:Email and text messages
We send marketing emails through Shopify, the platform our shop runs on. It stores your contact details, the messages we send you, and whether you open or click them. If we start sending text messages we will use a messaging provider and will name it here.
- We only send marketing if you've opted in: by ticking the box at checkout, signing up in our popup, or another sign-up form.
- Every email has an unsubscribe link. For texts, reply STOP at any time. Message and data rates may apply, and message frequency varies.
- After you unsubscribe, we keep your email address or number on a "do not contact" list, only so we don't message you again.
- You'll still get messages about your orders, such as confirmations and delivery updates. These aren't marketing.
05:Who we share it with
We never sell your personal information. We share it only with the companies that help us run the shop, and only as much as each needs:
- Shopify: our shop platform, checkout and payments
- PayPal, Klarna and other payment providers, if you choose to pay that way
- Our warehouses and delivery companies: Cirro (UK) and GCF (USA) pack and send orders. Delivery companies (for example Landmark Global and USPS) deliver them and send tracking updates.
- Judge.me: collecting and showing product reviews
- Goaffpro: tracking sales that come from our affiliate partners
- Vimeo: playing the videos on our site
- Professional advisers, and authorities where the law requires it
06:International transfers
Some of these companies, including Shopify, store data outside the UK, including in the United States and Canada. When they do, the transfer is protected by safeguards recognised under UK law. These include the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or a UK adequacy decision.
07:Cookies
Some cookies are essential. They keep your basket and let checkout work, so they're always on. Others help us understand how the site is used, or let advertising services (Meta, Google and TikTok) recognise you and send relevant messages or ads. We only use those non-essential cookies if you agree in our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your cookies and choosing again when the banner reappears, or through your browser settings.
08:How long we keep it
- Order records: 6 years after the order, as UK tax law requires
- Marketing contacts: until you unsubscribe, and we may remove people who haven't opened or clicked anything from us in 2 years. After unsubscribing, only your email or number stays on our "do not contact" list.
- Prize draw entries: 12 months after the draw closes
- Browsing data: up to 2 years
09:Your rights
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the information we hold about you
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete it, where we don't have to keep it by law
- stop or limit how we use it, and object to it being used. You can always stop marketing, no questions asked.
- send it to you or another company in a common format
- withdraw any consent you've given, at any time
Email support@cooltowel.com and we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. If you're in the EU, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
10:Children
Our shop isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. Our prize draw is only open to adults (18 and over).
11:Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell you by email if you're subscribed.
